What is yoga? Yoga connects breath with movement and is an amazing way to get exercise, strengthen bones and muscles, increase lung capacity, regulate hormones, calm the nervous system, lose weight, and improve mental clarity and focus. My classes focus on optimal alignment of the body which includes feet, knees, elbows, hips and spine. It is very important to me that my students feel safe and are in their comfort zone.
Why do CWYoga? People ask me what kind of yoga do I instruct. I respond, “Customized Yoga” because I incorporate the most exciting and most pertinent material from my teachers into my classes to best accommodate my students. I have studied Anusara Yoga with Todd Norian and Ann Greene, Wai Lana Yoga, Miranda Esmonde-White in her Esmonde technique, Yoga for Depression with Amy Weintraub, Self-Awakening Yoga with Don Stapleton, Vinyasa Yoga with Shiva Rea and Sean Corne, Yoga with Rodney Yee, Atma Yoga with Christopher Ken Baxter plus many more caring and professional instructors. From this I pull material and design a class that meets each individual’s needs for a particular session. Whether it is Yoga for Fertility, Chair Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Yoga for Kids, Teens, Families, or Persons with Disabilities, a program can be individualized just for you.
My personal experience with the effectiveness of yoga:
Yoga has helped me stay strong, flexible and improve my balance to keep up in sports such as snowboarding, surfing, skiing, ballroom dancing, roller-skating, mountain biking, road biking and hiking. Yoga has helped me stay calm and centered through my divorce and through my miscarriages. Yoga has taken me calmly through moves overseas and interstate. Yoga has helped me lose weight, release my cravings for unhealthy foods, focus my mind on thoughts that are positive, In my classes, students report back to me that when they do yoga, they can sleep though the entire night, their mood lifts, flexibility increases, aches and pains go away. Families report that their lives are improved when their spouses return from yoga feeling happier and better about themselves. After instructing a children’s class, teachers will tell me how calm and centered their students have become. Community, that is what I seek to create in all my classes, a place where we can share, grow, learn and respect one another.
What students are saying:
“Christine has a wonderfully soft, yet firm voice that assists her participants through the postures. This natural ability to comfort people and put them at ease, along with her knowledge and experience helps to make her a great instructor,” devoted yoga student.
